Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to Ballygarvan NS

Is mór an onóir domsa bheith in ann an píosa seo a scríobh, don láithráin gréasáin nua.

I am delighted to welcome the whole Ballygarvan school community, and visitors from outside our community to our new school website.

Ballygarvan Primary School is situated in the heart of Ballygarvan village, and a short distance from Carrigaline, Ballinhassig village and Cork Airport. We have 375 pupils enrolled on our school from Junior infants to 6th class, (4/5-year-olds to 12/13-year-olds).

We have 16 mainstream classes in our school and one special class for pupils with Autism. We are a co-educational school with a Catholic Patron and ethos, but we welcome pupils from all faiths and none. We follow the Irish Primary School Curriculum and the teachers use their own special skills and talents to bring their own “flavour” to the curriculum as they try to get the best from each pupil.

Our school is a happy and safe place where children can develop their abilities to their maximum potential. Our motto is “Fás Trí Fhoglaim” (“Growth through Learning”), and we aim to foster the children’s academic, emotional, spiritual, physical, and creative growth. We also want them to have fun and make lots of friends while they are with us!

We enjoy getting involved in GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football training and games. Our pupils have represented us in Soccer, Basketball and swimming competitions and have had several “taster” sessions in rugby, hockey, tennis and even cricket! We also like to enter quizzes, science Festivals, the Cór Fhéile in the City Hall, and most recently, chess competitions. The Glucksman Gallery have loaned us art work as part of their education programme. We all learn some Ceilí dances for Seachtain na Gaeilge and have a Ceilí Mór with all the pupils dancing in the school grounds!

The school hall is used after-school by  drama groups, a keyboard class, a Lego club and a mindfulness group. We also have a before- and- after- school service run by Sherpa Kids.

We hope this revamped website will show you what our school is all about and if you would like to know more about us, please give us a call and we can arrange a chat or a visit.

Le gach dea-ghuí,
Mairéad Coakley
